Velarde and Pierce Law

Chris W. Pierce has represented creditors, debtors, and other clients in numerous bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters since 1986. Mr. Pierce is a New Mexico Board of Legal Specialization Recognized Specialist in Bankruptcy (Consumer) Law. He graduated cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 1979, and received his law degree from the University of New Mexico Law School in 1982.

Mr. Pierce has represented debtors, creditors and trustees in hundreds of Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy matters from 1986 to the present.  He has assisted in reorganizing many different types of small businesses, such as plumbing contractors, building contractors, dental practices, used car businesses, restaurants, motels, gift shops, print shops, automobile repair shops and other small businesses.

In addition to small business reorganizations, Mr. Pierce has been involved in some of the largest Chapter 11 bankruptcies in New Mexico.  For example, he has represented the Chapter 7 Trustee in In re Furr's Supermarkets, Inc. since 2002, litigating over one hundred preference actions and other claims. This representation included litigation and negotiations with both local and national companies on many complex and sophisticated bankruptcy issues. In the case of In re Rubus Realty Company, Mr. Pierce was the attorney responsible for the analysis of over 160 supermarket leases, and for the claims objection procedure with regard to these leases. Another case of In re AutoLend Group, Inc. involved a successful reorganization of publicly traded company having over $14 million in assets.

Please note that past successes cannot be an assurance of future success because each case must be decided on its own merits.

Mr. Pierce is a previous member of the Board of Directors of the Bankruptcy Section, State Bar of New Mexico, and served on the State Bar Ad Hoc Committee on Advertising in 1995. Mr. Pierce was the President of Board of Directors of Albuquerque Civic Light Opera Association from 1996 through 1998, and was a Member of the Board of Directors from 1992 to 1998.
